2025 Illinois Minority Health Conference

The Illinois Department of Public Health – Center for Minority Health Services invites public health students to submit an abstract for consideration in the 2026 Minority Health Conference. The conference theme is Community over Chaos: The Next 15 Years of Health Equity in Illinois. Poster abstracts may be submitted online at https://mhc.niu.edu/posters no later than August 7, 2026.  

August 7, 2026: Call for abstracts closes.

August 21, 2026: Decisions for all abstracts received will be sent via email. Disclosure form will be sent via email. This is an approximate date and is subject to change.

September 4, 2026: Disclosure form due.

The 2026 Illinois Minority Health Conference will be in-person and selected presenters must attend the meeting in person.

  • Posters will be displayed throughout the conference on Tuesday, October 27 and Wednesday, October 28.
    • Poster setup will be available on Tuesday, October 27 beginning at 7:30 am. All posters should be displayed no later than 10:00 am on Tuesday, October 27.
  • Presenters are responsible for creating a 36”x48” poster. Posters will be attached to boards using tack pics and should be printed on poster paper or cloth rather than foam.
  • Presenters are expected to be in-person and at their stations to interact with and answer questions from conference attendees as follows: Tuesday, October 27, 1:50-2:30 p.m.
    • The poster session is intended to be casual and conversational; there will be no formal presentations.
  • Selected poster submissions may be invited to share an expanded presentation as part of a workshop track. Track titles and descriptions can be found at mhc.niu.edu. To be considered for this opportunity, submit your poster application by July 10, 2026.
  • Please submit an abstract in 250 words or less about your poster using the form below. The abstract should describe original work and include only one or two major points.
  • Abstract submissions should not be based on anticipated data. Research-based abstracts should include key findings; information-based abstracts should include 3 learning objectives.
  • Co-authors and co-presenters are allowed. Posters with multiple presenters should designate one person to serve as the primary contact. They will be responsible for sharing relevant conference information with co-presenters.

If selected, the conference will provide the following: 

  • Waived conference registration fee for up to 2 people for each poster presentation (1 main presenter and 1 co-presenter, if applicable. Co-presenter must be a student.)
  • Complimentary hotel stay for 1 night (either the day before or the day of the poster session) for 1 presenter.
  • Travel expenses are the responsibility of the presenter(s).
